Frequently Asked Questions
Expanding or bringing diagnostic imaging services in-house is a major strategic decision for any practice. From improving patient access and continuity of care to evaluating space, staffing, regulatory requirements, and financial impact, there are many factors to consider before moving forward.
The FAQs below address common questions we hear from practices exploring a range of diagnostic imaging solutions, including PET-CT and other advanced imaging modalities. These questions are designed to provide clarity around timelines, readiness requirements, equipment selection, partnership structures, and operational considerations, so you can make informed decisions that align with your clinical goals and long-term growth plans.
Getting Started with a PET-CT Program
On average, it takes about four to six months to begin scanning patients due to site preparation, RAM licensing, equipment procurement, and staff recruitment.
Your practice will need a RAM license, state approval if in a Certificate of Need (CON) state, site preparation or build-out, and qualified PET-CT technologists to prepare for the addition of a PET-CT scanner.
You will need a minimum of 1,000 sq. ft. of space for PET-CT, including space for the scanner, equipment room, technologist control room, hot lab, and patient uptake areas.
